Light damage can be described as a scratch or small dent to a panel.
Medium damage can be described as a large dent or multiple scratches across a panel.
Heavy damage can be described as several large dents with the panel significantly misshapen.
Severe damage can be described as several large dents with the panel partially detached from the vehicle.
Chipped can be described as a small piece of glass that is actually missing from the glass. If the chip does not have any cracks extending from it, is less than an inch in diameter and is not all the way through the screen, it can be filled or repaired.
Cracked can be described as a line in the glass. It may be a small, straight line with one starting and ending point, or it stretches across the windshield with several lines branching out from or extending from it. It needs to be replaced in most of the cases.
Smashed can be described as a chip with multiple cracks extending from the chip to create a shattered area around it or a partial or total loss of the glass. It needs to be replaced.
